Eric A. Brown, MD, FACEP - Director/Medical Director
Dr. Eric A. Brown has served as the Director of the Palmetto Health - University of South Carolina School of Medicine Simulation Center in Columbia, South Carolina since 2006. He is also currently a board certified Emergency Medicine physician, faculty member with the Palmetto Health Emergency Medicine Residency Program, and Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians. Dr. Brown is an active member of the Society for Simulation in Healthcare, and currently serves as the Chair of the Public Affairs and Government Relations Committee. To advance his understanding of simulation medicine, he completed the Comprehensive Course in Medical Simulation at the Center for Medical Simulation at Harvard University in 2007. His research and educational interests focus on developing quality improvement initiatives utilizing simulation, comparing traditional educational methods to simulation based education, integrating handheld technology into medical training, and mentoring residents during their transition to practice.
Dr. Brown completed his baccalaureate at Duke University in 1990. He was a Territory Manager for Baxter Healthcare Corporation before pursuing his graduate degree. He entered medical school in 1996 at Boston University School of Medicine, where he was inducted as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society in 2000. He completed his residency in Emergency Medicine in 2003 at Palmetto Health Richland in Columbia, South Carolina.
Dr. Brown is married to Dr. Rachel Brown, a family physician in Columbia, and has two young daughters, Adelaide and Eliza.
