Joshua Nuelken, LPN, RN - Simulation Specialist
Joshua Nuelken is a Simulation Specialist with the Palmetto Health/University of South Carolina Simulation Center. He brings over 8 years experience as both a Licensed Practical Nurse and a Registered Nurse. He is enthusiastic about using these skills in the rapidly developing field of Medical Simulation.
After obtaining his LPN he began work in Neuroscience Nursing at Palmetto Health Richland as a staff nurse. He worked there for 2 years while completing his Associate Degree in Nursing. After earning his Associate Degree in Nursing he went to work in the Emergency Department at Palmetto Health Richland in 2001. He worked there for 4 years as a staff nurse, charge nurse, and preceptor.
He then transferred to the Surgical Trauma Intensive Care Unit to broaden his knowledge base and also earned his Bachelor's Degree in Nursing. In 2007, he returned to the Emergency Department as a staff nurse and received his first exposure to High Tech/High Fidelity Simulation. This exposure was the beginning of his interest in medical simulation.
In May 2008, he accepted a position at the Simulation Center and is excited to be a part of this cutting edge form of education. He hopes that his nursing background will help him to broaden the scope of simulation to other nurses. He hopes to be involved in the training on new nurses moving into critical care areas to include the Emergency Room and Intensive Care Units. He also hopes to help design curriculum that will benefit Medical/Surgical nurses at Palmetto Health.
